In a bid to enhance citizen convenience, Punjab’s caretaker Chief Minister, Mohsin Naqvi, inaugurated an online application for issuing learning driving licences in Lahore. This initiative, part of the Driving License Management System, allows citizens to acquire their learning driving licences from the comfort of their homes.

During the launch ceremony, Chief Minister Naqvi highlighted the significance of the effort, emphasizing that citizens now have the option to obtain a learning driving licence without leaving their homes. The government is extending this facility not only through the online application but also at patrol posts, service centres, and police stations.

He further mentioned that the process has been streamlined, with the option to apply for a learner’s licence now available at the front desk of police stations, adding an extra layer of accessibility for the citizens.

Provincial Information Minister Aamir Mir, Inspector General of Police Dr Usman Anwar, and Chairman Punjab Information Technology Board Faisal Yousaf, along with other officials, were present at the inauguration ceremony held at the CM house.

Last week, the caretaker government in Punjab approved a substantial increase in the learner driving licence fee, effective from January 1, 2024. The fee has been raised from Rs60 to Rs1000. However, U.S. citizens and Pakistani citizens residing in the U.S., Canada, and other countries can obtain a driving licence by paying $100 online, as per the provincial cabinet’s decision.

Additionally, the provincial cabinet has also revised the fees for light and heavy vehicle driving licences and the Public Service Vehicle (PSV) driving licence.
