Punjab government is taking a tech-driven approach to tackle traffic violations and air pollution with the launch of a new AI-powered initiative. Under this program, citizens caught flouting traffic rules or driving smoke-emitting vehicles will face electronic fines complete with photographic evidence.
This initiative leverages modern electronic traffic policing systems equipped with AI technology. These cameras can detect and measure smoke emissions from various vehicles, including trucks, buses, cars, and two-wheelers. The Lahore Traffic Police have already begun issuing electronic fines to owners of vehicles exceeding smoke emission limits.
To ensure transparency and accountability, each electronic challan (ticket) includes photographic and video proof of the violation captured by the Punjab Safe City Cameras. Additionally, a comprehensive campaign has been launched in Lahore to capture visual evidence of smoke-emitting vehicles.
According to Senior Minister Punjab, Maryam Aurangzeb, this initiative serves a dual purpose: enforcing traffic regulations and protecting the environment by curbing air pollution caused by excessive vehicle emissions.
