The Safe City Authority has officially launched the electronic challan (e-challan) system in Muzaffargarh, further extending its digital traffic enforcement infrastructure across Punjab. This initiative is part of the province’s ongoing efforts to improve road safety, modernize policing practices, and bring consistency to the enforcement of traffic laws through technology.

The launch was marked by an awareness rally that began at the Safe City office and concluded at the Muzaffargarh Press Club. The rally was attended by officials from the Safe City Authority, District Traffic Police, Punjab Highway Patrol, and Rescue 1122. Representatives from local religious, educational, and social organizations also participated, showing broad community support for the system.

The e-challan system leverages surveillance cameras positioned throughout the city to detect and record traffic violations in real time. Once a violation is captured, a digital challan is issued to the vehicle owner with evidence-based documentation. This automation minimizes human intervention, reduces opportunities for on-ground disputes, and ensures consistency in enforcement.

Officials have also highlighted the system’s dual function in promoting overall public safety. In addition to traffic monitoring, the network of cameras contributes to crime prevention by supporting law enforcement agencies with real-time surveillance capabilities. This integration of public safety and traffic regulation technologies is aligned with broader digitization objectives aimed at smarter urban governance.

Citizens were urged to comply with traffic laws, wear seatbelts, use helmets, and follow road safety protocols to avoid receiving e-challans. Authorities emphasized that while the system is capable of autonomous enforcement, its success depends significantly on public cooperation. Reducing accidents and ensuring smoother traffic flow requires a shared commitment between officials and the community.

The expansion of the e-challan system to Muzaffargarh adds to the growing list of districts in Punjab benefiting from digital traffic enforcement solutions. The system is designed to create a data-driven approach to traffic management, offering insights that can be used to plan future road safety initiatives and inform policymaking at the provincial level.

By bringing Muzaffargarh into the fold, the Safe City Authority continues to strengthen its role in supporting digital transformation within public safety and transport sectors. The initiative aligns with broader goals of improving citizen services through automation, transparency, and the use of advanced surveillance infrastructure in urban centers.
