PTA has ramped up its efforts to combat the spread of anti-state and extremist content on social media platforms, marking a significant move in securing the country’s digital landscape. In an official statement, a PTA spokesperson revealed that over 13,000 videos promoting extremist agendas have been successfully blocked on the popular video-sharing platform TikTok. Additionally, the PTA has taken action against 3,941 TikTok URLs associated with banned organizations, further tightening its hold on digital content that threatens national security.
In a broader effort, the PTA also reported the removal of 13,017 more videos containing content that undermines security agencies. These measures follow heightened concerns regarding the dissemination of harmful and disruptive content online, especially following incidents such as the Jafar Express tragedy. Following this event, the PTA contacted major social media platforms including Facebook, YouTube, and TikTok, urging them to take immediate and robust action against the spread of fake news. In the wake of the tragedy, the PTA reported 1,342 URLs involved in the dissemination of anti-state propaganda.
The PTA has focused its surveillance efforts on identifying and taking down content related to the Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) and other extremist groups, with a special emphasis on content shared between March 11 and March 28. As of now, over 113,000 URLs linked to anti-state narratives have been blocked, signaling the PTA’s ongoing commitment to curbing harmful content and propaganda online. The spokesperson confirmed that the process of monitoring and blocking such content is ongoing, with security agencies continuing to file complaints that prompt swift action.
PTA has been steadfast in its position that social media platforms should not be used as vehicles for spreading terrorist narratives or undermining the state. In its latest statement, the authority reaffirmed that it will continue to take aggressive measures to prevent such content from circulating on the internet, emphasizing that the country’s digital platforms will not be allowed to harbor content that incites violence, promotes extremism, or challenges the sovereignty of Pakistan.
