The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has announced that internet services across the country have returned to normal following the successful restoration of the SEA-ME-WE 5 (SMW5) international submarine cable system. The repair resolves the connectivity issues that disrupted internet services for users nationwide after the cable fault affected international bandwidth, resulting in slower browsing speeds and intermittent connectivity for both consumers and businesses.
According to PTA, all internet traffic has now been fully restored and network operations have stabilized following the completion of repair work on the submarine cable. The authority confirmed that telecom operators have resumed normal routing of international traffic, allowing broadband and mobile internet services to function without the disruptions experienced during the outage. Users across Pakistan are expected to experience normal browsing, streaming and online communication services once again.
The temporary disruption highlighted Pakistan’s dependence on international submarine cable systems, which carry the majority of the country’s global internet traffic. Any fault or maintenance activity involving these undersea cables can reduce available bandwidth and impact internet performance until traffic is rerouted or repairs are completed. Telecom operators worked throughout the outage to minimize the impact by utilizing alternative international connectivity routes where possible.
With the SMW5 cable now fully operational, PTA has assured users that internet services have normalized across the country. The authority continues to monitor network performance in coordination with telecom operators to ensure stable connectivity and minimize the impact of any future disruptions affecting Pakistan’s international internet infrastructure.
