Pakistan Telecommunication Authority has issued an advisory urging mobile users across the country to ensure that their Computerised National Identity Card details remain valid and up to date in order to avoid potential disruption to their mobile services. The regulator highlighted that SIMs registered against expired or cancelled identity documents, as well as those linked to individuals who are no longer alive, may face blocking as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen compliance and maintain a secure telecommunications environment. The advisory reflects continued regulatory focus on aligning subscriber records with verified identity data to ensure accuracy across telecom networks.

According to PTA, users are encouraged to renew expired CNICs without delay and resolve any discrepancies in their identity records through National Database and Registration Authority. The authority also stressed the importance of ensuring that SIMs are not registered under the CNIC of a deceased individual, as such records may be flagged during verification processes. These steps form part of a broader regulatory framework aimed at improving data integrity within the telecom sector, while also supporting measures designed to enhance accountability and traceability of mobile connections.

Officials noted that maintaining updated subscriber information is essential not only for regulatory compliance but also for ensuring uninterrupted access to communication services. With mobile connectivity playing a central role in everyday activities, including financial transactions, communication and access to digital platforms, any disruption can have a wide ranging impact on users. By proactively updating CNIC records and ensuring accurate registration details, users can avoid service interruptions while contributing to a more reliable telecom ecosystem.

The advisory underscores PTA’s ongoing commitment to safeguarding consumer interests while strengthening the overall security of Pakistan’s digital infrastructure. As the country continues to expand its digital footprint and reliance on mobile based services, maintaining accurate and verified subscriber data remains a key priority for regulators. The move also reflects broader efforts to ensure that telecom services operate within a secure and transparent framework, supporting both user convenience and national compliance standards.
