In a landmark move to foster technology-led progress in Pakistan, Pakistan IT Industry Association (P@SHA) has signed a strategic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Asian Development Bank (ADB) to accelerate digital development, enhance tech innovation, and promote inclusive economic growth.

The MoU was signed on May 27, 2025, by Nasruminallah Mian, Senior Programs Officer at ADB, and Syed Ali Hasani, Secretary General of P@SHA. The partnership formalizes a shared commitment to driving forward digital inclusion, capacity building, and sustainable development through technology-focused initiatives.

The collaboration between ADB and P@SHA is structured around several key pillars designed to strengthen Pakistan’s digital economy. These include joint research on emerging technologies and digital policy frameworks, strategic foresight workshops to anticipate future digital trends, and skill development programs tailored to the demands of the modern tech landscape.

Another significant area of focus is policy dialogue. The two organizations plan to hold regular roundtables with key public and private stakeholders to shape policies that are conducive to technological growth. These engagements aim to provide thought leadership and ensure that the digital ecosystem evolves with a clear, inclusive vision.

Moreover, the partnership includes targeted empowerment initiatives for women and youth—two segments of the population critical to Pakistan’s demographic and economic potential. By creating pathways to education, employment, and entrepreneurship, the programs will contribute to bridging the digital divide and fostering broader participation in the tech sector.

Recognizing and rewarding innovation is also on the agenda. The MoU outlines a plan to organize technology awards that highlight and honor outstanding contributions within Pakistan’s tech ecosystem, encouraging a culture of innovation and excellence.

The MoU signing ceremony brought together several notable figures from both organizations, reflecting the importance of this collaboration. Attendees included Sajjad Syed, Chairman of P@SHA; Salman Dar and Dr. Sonia Saleem, both CEC Members of P@SHA; Khayam Abbasi from the Asian Development Bank; Laraib Farhat, Manager of Policy & Government Affairs at P@SHA; and Gulraiz Iqbal, Lead for Policy & Government Affairs at P@SHA.

In a joint statement, P@SHA and ADB emphasized the strategic importance of the partnership. “Together, we aim to build a more inclusive, future-ready digital economy for Pakistan,” they noted, highlighting a shared vision for leveraging technology as a catalyst for national progress.

This MoU is especially timely as Pakistan continues its efforts to position itself as a regional digital hub. With digital transformation increasingly recognized as a cornerstone of economic resilience, partnerships like this offer a roadmap for sustainable development rooted in innovation and inclusive access.

As Pakistan navigates the complexities of the digital age, this collaboration between P@SHA and ADB stands as a promising step forward—uniting institutional strength, industry insight, and a commitment to inclusive growth.
