PASHA has announced the launch of its latest policy paper titled “AgriTech Frontiers: Scaling Smart Farming in Gilgit-Baltistan – An Implementation Roadmap”, aimed at driving inclusive innovation and regional development through technology. The document provides an in-depth analysis of how digital tools and smart farming practices can transform the agriculture sector in Gilgit-Baltistan, a region where small-scale farmers face unique geographic and market challenges. The policy paper seeks to guide stakeholders in the public and private sectors on practical steps to improve productivity, reduce losses, and enhance food security in one of Pakistan’s most strategically important regions.

According to PASHA, the policy paper identifies key challenges in Gilgit-Baltistan’s agriculture sector, such as limited access to modern equipment, fragmented supply chains, and vulnerability to climate-related risks. It then lays out five strategic pillars for agricultural transformation, offering a comprehensive roadmap to scale smart farming practices and increase the adoption of technology-driven solutions. These pillars emphasize not only infrastructure and investment but also capacity building for farmers, data-driven decision-making, and innovative financing models.

The paper includes detailed case studies and highlights specific investment opportunities, showcasing how targeted interventions can raise farm incomes and support sustainable practices. It also presents step-by-step action plans for implementing these strategies, encouraging collaboration between government agencies, development partners, and private enterprises. By adopting these recommendations, stakeholders can work together to create an ecosystem where technology supports more efficient resource use, improved crop yields, and enhanced market access for smallholders.

PASHA has framed this initiative as part of its broader commitment to leveraging technology for inclusive growth across Pakistan’s regions. Through this policy paper, it is inviting dialogue and action among policymakers, investors, agritech startups, and development organizations to co-create solutions tailored to the unique needs of Gilgit-Baltistan’s farmers. Readers can access the full policy paper and explore its findings, case studies, and implementation roadmap by visiting https://champ.ly/V3krLHEu.

By providing a clear path to modernize agriculture through digital innovation, PASHA aims to demonstrate how the application of smart farming technologies can improve livelihoods, enhance food security, and strengthen the resilience of rural communities. The policy paper serves as a reference for decision-makers and practitioners looking to align their efforts with a shared vision for the region’s agricultural transformation.
