The Ministry of Information Technology and Telecom (MoIT&T) has taken a significant step towards fostering Pakistan’s digital future with the development of the Digital Pakistan Policy 2024. This updated policy aims to modernize the 2018 framework and harness the transformative potential of emerging technologies.

The initial Digital Pakistan Policy, introduced in 2018, played a crucial role in driving digital transformation efforts. However, the rapid pace of technological advancement has necessitated an overhaul to ensure the policy remains relevant. The Digital Pakistan Policy 2024 addresses this need by incorporating advancements in artificial intelligence (AI), blockchain, and 5G technology.

The MoIT&T has adopted a collaborative approach in formulating the new policy. Extensive consultations with industry experts, technology companies, academic institutions, and civil society organizations have been conducted to gather valuable insights and ensure the policy reflects the needs of all stakeholders. This inclusive process aims to create a robust and future-proof framework.

“The new policy envisions a comprehensive framework for a digitally transformed Pakistan,” revealed a ministry source. “By integrating cutting-edge technologies and fostering a conducive environment for innovation, we aim to propel economic growth, enhance public service delivery, and position Pakistan as a strong competitor in the global digital landscape.”

Key Focus Areas of the New Policy

The anticipated key features of the Digital Pakistan Policy 2024 include:

  • Strategies for widespread adoption of AI and machine learning across various sectors.
  • Implementation of blockchain technology to promote secure and transparent transactions.
  • Deployment of 5G networks to bolster connectivity and support the Internet of Things (IoT).
  • Initiatives focused on digital skills development, robust cybersecurity measures, and the promotion of digital entrepreneurship.

With the draft policy finalized, further consultations are expected to refine the specifics. The official unveiling of the Digital Pakistan Policy 2024 is anticipated later this year. This updated policy signifies Pakistan’s commitment to embracing technological advancements and building a thriving digital future.
