The search is on for a new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) to lead the Pakistan Software Export Board (PSEB). The Ministry of IT and Telecommunication (MoITT) has officially opened applications for the position, which has been vacant since October 2023 following the departure of Ali Raza.

The announcement outlines specific criteria for qualified candidates. Applicants must possess a relevant degree in computer science, IT engineering, business administration, or a similar field. Preference will be given to individuals with a technical background alongside a master’s degree in marketing, management, or business administration. Furthermore, a minimum of 12 years of relevant experience, including at least five years in a senior leadership role, is mandatory.

Established in 1995, the PSEB plays a vital role in fostering Pakistan’s IT industry. It provides support to IT companies and freelancers, with a current focus on establishing e-Rozgar Centers to empower freelance professionals.

The government has allocated a significant budget of Rs. 2 billion to the PSEB, with Rs. 1 billion earmarked for e-Rozgar centers and another Rs. 1 billion for IT training programs. To effectively manage and implement these initiatives, a permanent CEO is essential.

The Federal Cabinet recently assigned the additional charge of CEO PSEB to Additional Secretary MoITT Ayesha Humera. However, the MoITT’s launch of the official hiring process signifies a move towards achieving stability within the organization. The appointment of a permanent CEO is expected to enhance the PSEB’s leadership and continue its mission of promoting Pakistan’s IT industry.
