Chief Justice of Pakistan Yahya Afridi recently chaired a high-level meeting to finalize plans for establishing an E-Courts system across the country, marking a strategic step in the digital transformation of Pakistan’s judiciary. The session brought together Justice Muhammad Ali Mazhar, Justice Haroon Rashid, Barrister Ali Zafar, and senior officials from various institutions to discuss a roadmap for implementing the new system. The initiative is focused on enhancing efficiency, transparency, and accessibility within the judicial process, aligning technology adoption with public service goals.

Addressing the gathering, Chief Justice Afridi highlighted that digital transformation of the judiciary is a reform process driven by public interest, intended to improve the overall performance and transparency of court proceedings. He emphasized that the primary objective of the reforms is to ensure timely delivery of justice while maintaining accountability and accessibility for citizens nationwide. Afridi also instructed that all stakeholders, including judicial staff and technical experts, be actively involved to ensure smooth and effective execution of the E-Courts initiative.

As part of the implementation strategy, Chief Justice Afridi directed the Federal Judicial Academy to accelerate consultations with relevant institutions and specialists, underlining the importance of collaboration in meeting the project’s timeline and objectives. The discussions focused on leveraging technology to reduce procedural delays, enhance case management, and integrate digital systems across all levels of the judiciary. The E-Courts initiative is expected to streamline operations by providing electronic filing, case tracking, and real-time access to court data, facilitating a more organized and responsive judicial environment.

In addition to digital infrastructure, the Chief Justice announced that all courts will transition to solar energy by August 2026, reflecting a commitment to sustainability and modern facilities. Projects are also planned to establish E-libraries, women facilitation centers, and clean water facilities, ensuring that the judicial system is equipped to meet modern standards and public needs. These upgrades are aimed at creating a more efficient, transparent, and citizen-friendly judicial process, enhancing the accessibility of services while supporting environmental sustainability.

Through the E-Courts initiative, Pakistan’s judiciary aims to integrate modern technology with public service, enabling faster resolution of cases and improving overall operational efficiency. The program highlights the potential of digital tools to enhance institutional performance while fostering accountability and transparency. By implementing these reforms, the judiciary seeks to strengthen public trust and deliver justice more effectively, setting a framework for continued modernization and technology-driven improvements in Pakistan’s legal system.
