The 7th Pakistan-China Business Forum, held in Shenzhen on June 5th, 2024, concluded with promising signs for deeper economic ties between the two countries.

The event buzzed with prominent business leaders and government officials from both nations. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s address to a gathering of Pakistani and Chinese businesses set the stage for collaboration. Over 1000 B2B meetings between Pakistani and Chinese businesses from 14 different sectors aimed to explore potential partnerships and investment opportunities.

Pakistan actively encouraged Chinese investment. Federal Minister for Commerce, Jam Kamal Khan, met with over 40 Chinese enterprises, highlighting various Pakistani sectors ripe for investment. He emphasized the forum’s importance in strengthening economic ties. Discussions also addressed trade dynamics and growth potential. Khan highlighted the positive trend in Pakistan’s exports to China while acknowledging the need for further diversification. He stressed the importance of such forums in achieving this goal.

Economic recovery through increased trade was another key focus for Pakistan. Jam Kamal Khan emphasized the government’s priority in this area. He pointed to positive results from ongoing efforts towards stability, security, and good governance.

The forum witnessed the signing of 30 Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) and one Letter of Intent (LOI) with Chinese companies. A landmark agreement between Hualu Engineering & Technology and Asiapak Investments for urea production in Pakistan was a significant outcome.

The forum also identified 14 key sectors for attracting investment in Pakistan, including areas like solar energy, cell phone manufacturing, agriculture food parks, and Information and Communications Technology (ICT).

The Pakistan-China Business Forum 2024 served as a milestone in strengthening economic ties. The event fostered collaboration, encouraged Chinese investment, and highlighted sectors with high potential for growth, paving the way for a more prosperous future for both Pakistan and China.
