Pakistan-Bangladesh Academic Fellowship Program Launched by OIC and University of Lahore

Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Ministerial Standing Committee on Scientific and Technological Cooperation (Comstech) and the University of Lahore have recently launched a joint fellowship program aimed at promoting academic collaboration between Pakistan and Bangladesh. The announcement of the program marks a significant step in strengthening educational ties within the OIC member states and facilitating cross-border exchanges that will benefit students and researchers from both nations.

In a statement issued by Comstech, the initiative was heralded as a vital effort to nurture talent, foster innovation, and enhance academic exchange. The program aims to provide Bangladeshi students and researchers with exceptional opportunities for higher education and advanced research across a wide range of disciplines. Among the fields covered by the program are allied health sciences, engineering and technology, pharmacy, management sciences, social sciences, and humanities, which are critical for the growth and development of both nations and the broader Muslim world.

Additionally, the fellowship program will also offer technical training opportunities for science, technology, and engineering lab staff, further strengthening the academic infrastructure between the two countries. This initiative aligns with the vision of Comstech to foster scientific cooperation and knowledge-sharing within the OIC region, enabling member states to collectively address the challenges they face in various fields.

Prof. Mohammad Iqbal Choudhary, Comstech Coordinator General, highlighted the importance of the fellowship, stating, 

“This fellowship program demonstrates our commitment to bridging educational and research gaps across the Muslim world. By supporting Bangladeshi scholars and students, we aim to cultivate future innovators and leaders who can address modern challenges.”

His words underscore the program’s far-reaching potential to create a lasting impact on the development of research, education, and leadership within the OIC member states.

The fellowship program is open to Bangladeshi nationals aged 22 to 45, residing anywhere across the globe, who possess outstanding academic achievements and a strong commitment to community service. This inclusive approach ensures that the program not only attracts the brightest minds but also fosters a diverse academic environment that enriches the learning experience for all involved.

The fellowship package is comprehensive and includes full coverage of tuition fees, round-trip airfare, a stipend to cover living expenses, and free accommodation. By addressing these essential needs, the program ensures that financial barriers do not hinder eligible candidates from pursuing advanced education and research opportunities.

Interested applicants can submit their applications through the official websites of Comstech and the University of Lahore, with the deadline for submission set for March 1, 2025. The selection process promises to be rigorous, ensuring that the most deserving and dedicated candidates are given the chance to benefit from this unique academic initiative.

This fellowship program represents a significant step forward in the academic collaboration between Pakistan and Bangladesh, two countries that share a strong bond of cultural, historical, and academic ties.
