Oman recorded more than 8.2 million mobile subscriptions as of the end of April 2026, reflecting continued strong demand for mobile communications services across the Sultanate as consumers and businesses deepen their reliance on digital platforms, mobile broadband, and online services for everyday activities.

The figures underline the central role mobile networks play in Oman’s expanding digital economy, with connectivity serving as the foundational layer for a wide range of digital services spanning e-commerce, digital banking, online education, healthcare platforms, and government services. Growth in subscriptions aligns with broader trends across the Gulf region, where smartphone penetration, mobile broadband adoption, and digital service usage continue to expand at pace, with telecom operators responding through sustained investment in network modernisation, 5G rollout, and service innovation designed to meet rising data consumption demands.

Oman’s telecommunications sector has undergone significant transformation in recent years, supported by targeted investments in advanced mobile networks, fibre infrastructure, and digital service ecosystems. These developments have improved connectivity quality and expanded access to digital opportunities across the country, including in areas where physical infrastructure investment has historically been more limited. For businesses operating in Oman, enhanced mobile connectivity is increasingly treated as a prerequisite for digital transformation, enabling mobile commerce, cloud adoption, and flexible working models that depend on reliable, high-capacity network access.

Industry observers note that while subscription volume remains an important indicator of market health, the sector’s focus is shifting toward service quality, network capacity, and the adoption of advanced digital services as the primary drivers of future growth. The continued rollout of 5G networks and the expansion of digital service ecosystems are expected to shape the next phase of development within Oman’s telecommunications market, with the sector remaining a key pillar of the country’s broader Vision 2040 ambitions to diversify the economy and build sustainable digital infrastructure capable of supporting long-term growth.
