The Pakistan Software Export Board, operating under the Ministry of IT and Telecommunication, has announced that the country’s information technology and IT enabled services export remittances reached an all time high of 4.6 billion dollars in fiscal year 2025-26, marking a 21 percent increase over the 3.8 billion dollars recorded the previous year. The sector also maintained an 85 percent trade surplus, reaffirming its position as Pakistan’s largest and fastest growing services export category. Officials attributed the milestone to the government’s continued focus on the sector under Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, with the Special Investment Facilitation Council credited for helping accelerate reforms and support export growth despite a difficult global economic environment and regional uncertainty.
Federal Minister for IT and Telecommunication Shaza Fatima Khawaja described the figure as evidence that Pakistan’s digital economy is maturing and becoming more competitive on a global scale. She said the outcome reflects deliberate choices made in coordination with industry, backed by consistent political support for prioritizing the digital economy, and added that continued investment in human capital alongside close industry collaboration is helping translate policy into measurable export results. She noted that the government’s target of reaching 15 billion dollars in ICT exports by 2030 remains ambitious but appears increasingly achievable given the sector’s current trajectory.
Pakistan Software Export Board Chief Executive Officer Faisal Jeddy said alignment between government and industry on IT exports has reached a level not seen before, describing continued support for the sector as a top government priority backed by high level engagement. He said the board intends to take a more active role in the year ahead, helping the broader IT ecosystem explore new international markets and identify additional export opportunities. Separately, Pakistan Software Houses Association Chairman Sajjad Syed welcomed the milestone as a reflection of the collective effort of thousands of Pakistani technology companies and professionals, noting that the achievement demonstrates the country’s growing capability not only in established IT services but also in emerging technology areas. He said predictable tax policies, streamlined compliance processes, continued investment in digital connectivity, and ongoing collaboration between government and industry will be necessary to build on the current momentum going forward.
Throughout the past fiscal year, the Pakistan Software Export Board’s Tech Destination Pakistan initiative has helped Pakistani technology companies expand their international presence by showcasing their work at major global technology exhibitions and facilitating business engagements with international buyers and investors. These efforts have been paired with programs aimed at developing the country’s technology talent pipeline through partnerships spanning government, academia and industry, contributing to a more competitive and future ready ICT ecosystem. The Pakistan Software Export Board said it continues to work toward accelerating sector growth through supportive policy measures, sustained investment in digital infrastructure and human capital, and the ongoing expansion of Pakistan’s footprint in international technology markets.
