The Prime Minister’s Office has sent back the summary for the appointment of a new Executive Director to the Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication, which has caused another delay in the appointment of the National Information Technology Board’s (NITB) Executive Director (MoITT).

Saleem Munir, the top applicant on the three-person panel, reportedly got a job in a Saudi Arabian IT company, which is why the summary has been returned, according to MoITT sources.

The IT Minister is showing a personal interest in this matter, according to MoITT, and the ministry is committed to nominate someone to this position as quickly as possible. According to sources, the ministry will soon send a fresh summary to the Prime Minister’s Office after taking into consideration the names of the remaining selected applicants.

The position has been open for one year, and a month ago the IT Ministry concluded its shortlist of three candidates and forwarded it to the Prime Minister’s Office for approval. Out of 313 applicants, 13 were selected for further consideration by the MoITT, and 10 candidates appeared before the four-member selection panel.

It should be noted that the Executive Director serves as the NITB’s legal leader. In July 2021, the cabinet gave Syed Husnain Abbas Kazmi, who already holds the position of Director General Administration, additional responsibility as Executive Director.
