The National Information Technology Board and Metropolitan Corporation Islamabad have launched digital birth and death registration services through Pak App, eliminating the need for citizens to visit government offices in person to obtain these essential civil registration documents.
Through the joint initiative, residents can now apply for birth and death registration entirely online, complete secure payments within the app, and receive their digital certificates directly through Pak App, with the entire process designed to be completed from home regardless of location. The certificates issued through the platform carry the same official status as those obtained in person, with built-in security features including QR code verification ensuring authenticity while removing the friction, travel time, and in-person queuing that have historically characterised these services at MCI offices.
The launch is part of MCI’s broader digitization drive, which has been systematically shifting civic services onto online portals to ensure seamless and transparent service delivery for citizens of Islamabad. Birth and death registration are among the most universally required civil documents, needed for everything from school admissions and passport applications to inheritance proceedings and pension claims, making their digitization a meaningful quality-of-life improvement for residents across the capital. Pak App, developed by NITB, has been steadily expanding its service catalogue to consolidate Islamabad’s citizen-facing government services within a single digital platform, and the addition of birth and death registration further strengthens the app’s position as the primary gateway for residents seeking to interact with municipal authorities digitally rather than through physical office visits. The app is available for download on both Google Play and the Apple App Store.
