The National Information Technology Board and Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan have reviewed the National Drug Track and Trace Ecosystem as part of ongoing efforts to expand digital monitoring and traceability across the country’s pharmaceutical sector. A meeting was held between the Chief Executive Officers of NITB and DRAP, along with senior officials from both organizations, where the NITB team presented an overview of the digital system and demonstrated the technology developed to support pharmaceutical product tracking and monitoring.
During the meeting, NITB officials provided details about the objectives and key functionalities of the National Drug Track and Trace Ecosystem. The system is designed to support digital monitoring and traceability of pharmaceutical products across Pakistan, with technology enabled processes intended to provide greater visibility throughout the product tracking cycle. Officials also explained how the ecosystem can support regulatory activities by providing digital workflows for monitoring pharmaceutical products. The initiative brings together technology and regulatory processes to create a digital mechanism for tracking relevant information and supporting oversight within the pharmaceutical sector. The meeting also provided an opportunity for officials from both organizations to discuss the role of digital systems in improving processes related to pharmaceutical monitoring.
The NITB team conducted a live demonstration of the web portal and mobile application developed for the initiative. The demonstration showcased the digital workflows and technology based mechanisms incorporated into the system to facilitate end to end tracking and monitoring. The web portal and mobile application form key components of the ecosystem, providing digital interfaces through which relevant processes can be carried out and information can be managed. The demonstration allowed DRAP officials to review the functionality of the technology and understand how the system can be used to support monitoring activities. The digital tools are intended to contribute to more efficient handling of information associated with pharmaceutical products while supporting the regulatory requirements of the sector.
The engagement between NITB and DRAP reflects continued collaboration between the two organizations on the use of digital technologies for pharmaceutical regulation and monitoring. The National Drug Track and Trace Ecosystem is being positioned as a technology based mechanism to support transparency, regulatory oversight, traceability and operational efficiency within Pakistan’s pharmaceutical sector. By introducing digital workflows and applications for tracking pharmaceutical products, the initiative seeks to provide regulatory authorities with technology supported tools for monitoring activities. The collaboration also highlights the role of government technology organizations in developing digital systems for specialized public sector requirements. Further implementation and use of the ecosystem could provide DRAP with additional digital capabilities for monitoring pharmaceutical products while supporting broader government efforts to expand digital services and technology based regulatory processes.
