PTA has appointed NERA, a renowned international consultancy firm, to provide expert guidance for the upcoming 5G spectrum auction in Pakistan.

NERA was chosen based on its exceptional technical expertise and competitive financial bid, surpassing other leading consultancy firms in the selection process. The consultancy firm will play a pivotal role in assisting the government in planning and executing a successful 5G spectrum auction by April 2025.

NERA’s extensive experience in economic and commercial modeling for the telecom industry, coupled with its expertise in spectrum evaluation, makes it ideally suited for this crucial task. The firm will provide valuable insights and recommendations to the government, enabling them to make informed decisions and ensure a transparent and efficient auction process.

NERA will advise the government on necessary policy actions and reforms to promote infrastructure investment, broadband proliferation, and business sustainability. The consultancy firm will also conduct a comparative analysis of Pakistan’s existing spectrum assignments with regional practices, identifying gaps and recommending a phased approach to auctioning paired and unpaired spectrum in various bands.

Furthermore, NERA will prepare a comprehensive report on the valuation of the spectrum, including base prices in USD and PKR, for different spectrum bands. The report will also provide future projections for the next three years, considering demand and supply side models.

PTA’s decision to engage NERA’s services demonstrates its commitment to ensuring a fair and transparent 5G spectrum auction process. NERA’s expertise will be instrumental in guiding the government towards a successful outcome that benefits both the telecom industry and the broader Pakistani economy.
