National Information Technology Board (NITB) has announced the expansion of digital public services to the tourism sector of the country. The Project Implementation Unit of NITB (PIU-NITB) has signed another Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the tourism department, as part of its vision for a Unified Citizen Services Platform under the Digital Economy Enhancement Project (DEEP). The announcement was shared by the board on its official page, and further information about its work is available on its website. The agreement follows continued official engagements between the board and the department, and it adds tourism to the list of sectors that the platform is intended to cover.
NITB said that before this step it had onboarded government service providing departments across several major sectors. These include administration, health, taxation, overseas Pakistanis, culture and heritage, education, social welfare, postal and logistics services, and women inclusion. The board therefore describes the tourism department as another important sector that is now being added to a platform which already covers a wide range of public services. By signing agreements with departments one after another, the board is gradually bringing services that are currently provided separately into a single digital setting for citizens.
According to the board, the collaboration marks another step towards integrated digital public services, improved accessibility and a seamless citizen experience. The aim of the Unified Citizen Services Platform is to allow citizens to reach different government services through one platform rather than going to separate departments or separate websites. With tourism now included in the agreements, the board has extended this approach to a sector that serves both residents and visitors, and the MoU gives the board and the department a formal basis on which to work together on the digital delivery of tourism related services.
The announcement closed with the line one platform, integrated services and a digitally empowered Pakistan, which summarizes the intention of the project. The agreement with the tourism department is part of the Digital Economy Enhancement Project, under which NITB is carrying out its work on digital public services. With the signing of the MoU, PIU-NITB has added one more department to its list of partners, and it has said that it will continue its official engagements in order to advance the Unified Citizen Services Platform across the country.
