Mehran University of Engineering & Technology (MUET), Jamshoro, has taken a major step in advancing research and innovation in the field of computer science by establishing a state-of-the-art Artificial Intelligence Laboratory at its Department of Computer System Engineering. The project was made possible through the collaboration between MUET and its Alumni North America Chapter, showcasing the vital role that alumni contributions can play in the growth and development of academic institutions in Pakistan.

The inauguration ceremony of the laboratory was attended by university leadership, faculty, alumni, and students. The facility was officially inaugurated by Prof. Dr. Tauha Hussain Ali, Vice Chancellor MUET, along with Engr. Tufail Memon, President of the MUET Alumni Association of North America (MUAA), and Prof. Dr. Mohammad Aslam Uqaili, former Vice Chancellor of MUET. Their presence, alongside a large gathering of distinguished alumni representatives, deans, faculty members, and invited guests, reflected the significance of the initiative not only for the university but also for the broader academic and technology community.

The creation of the laboratory was made possible through generous funding of PKR 6 million provided by alumni residing in the United States and Canada. This contribution stands as a testament to the strong connection MUET’s alumni maintain with their alma mater and their commitment to supporting the next generation of engineers and computer scientists. The funding has enabled the establishment of an advanced facility equipped with modern resources aimed at enhancing research capabilities, supporting hands-on learning, and fostering innovation in artificial intelligence and machine learning. For students, the lab is expected to open new avenues for exploring emerging technologies, conducting advanced research, and collaborating on projects with industry relevance.

Speakers at the ceremony emphasized that the Artificial Intelligence Laboratory will serve as a hub for innovation and academic excellence. It will provide students and researchers with opportunities to experiment with AI-driven solutions, pursue cutting-edge projects, and strengthen their technical expertise in one of the most transformative fields of technology today. The initiative also underlines the growing importance of alumni networks in bridging gaps in resources and creating sustainable opportunities for academic institutions to remain aligned with global technology trends. By bringing together faculty expertise, alumni support, and student enthusiasm, the new lab is positioned to play a pivotal role in advancing AI education and research in Pakistan.

The collaboration between MUET and its North America alumni chapter represents a successful model of partnership that benefits both students and the institution. It illustrates how alumni contributions can be channeled to strengthen infrastructure, build advanced learning environments, and provide platforms that prepare students for the evolving demands of the global technology landscape. The establishment of this Artificial Intelligence Laboratory stands as a milestone for MUET in its mission to nurture innovation, promote advanced research, and prepare graduates to contribute effectively to the growing digital economy.
