Millat Tractors Limited has made its first formal move into Pakistan’s electric mobility sector, with a subsidiary of the Pakistan Stock Exchange-listed company signing a memorandum of understanding with a leading Chinese electric bike manufacturer to assemble, manufacture, and market electric bikes domestically. The agreement marks a significant strategic pivot for the Millat Group, which has historically been associated with agricultural machinery and tractor manufacturing, and signals the company’s intent to diversify into the rapidly growing two-wheel electric vehicle segment as consumer and policy interest in sustainable transportation accelerates across the country.

The memorandum of understanding aligns directly with the Government of Pakistan’s National Electric Vehicle Policy 2025-30, which outlines a phased transition toward electric mobility across various vehicle categories including two-wheelers, with targets for domestic assembly and eventual localisation of electric vehicle manufacturing. By partnering with an established Chinese electric bike manufacturer, Millat Tractors’ subsidiary gains access to proven electric drivetrain technology, supply chain infrastructure, and manufacturing know-how that would take considerably longer to develop independently, allowing the group to enter the market with a credible product from the outset rather than building capability from scratch.

The company described the memorandum of understanding as an important step toward expanding its product portfolio and contributing to the country’s transition to sustainable transportation. The entry of an established industrial group of Millat Tractors’ standing into the electric bike space is likely to bring greater institutional credibility and distribution depth to a segment that has so far been dominated by smaller, more specialised players. With Pakistan’s two-wheeler market remaining one of the largest in the region by volume, and with government incentives increasingly favouring electric alternatives over conventional combustion-engine motorcycles, the timing of Millat Tractors’ entry positions the group to capture a meaningful share of what is expected to be a structurally growing category over the remainder of the decade.
