The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has officially withdrawn its work from home policy for government employees, ending the temporary arrangement that allowed public servants to perform their duties remotely on Fridays. Under a new notification issued by the provincial Administration Department, all government offices will now resume their normal working schedule, with employees required to report to their workplaces every Friday. The decision takes immediate effect and reverses the policy introduced earlier this year as part of the province’s austerity and fuel conservation measures.
The remote working arrangement was originally implemented in March 2026 in response to fuel supply concerns and rising operational costs. At the time, the provincial government introduced a series of austerity measures that included reducing official vehicle usage, lowering fuel allocations, shortening the school week and allowing employees to work from home on Fridays. These initiatives were designed to conserve fuel, reduce government expenditure and minimize transportation requirements during a period of regional uncertainty. With conditions improving, the provincial cabinet has now decided to discontinue the temporary work from home policy and restore the regular office attendance schedule.
According to the official directive, all administrative departments have been instructed to ensure immediate implementation of the revised policy. Government employees across the province will now attend their offices on Fridays and perform their duties according to the standard working calendar. The Chief Secretary has directed all departments to comply with the decision, which was approved during the 54th meeting of the provincial cabinet. The move is expected to restore normal administrative operations and improve coordination among government departments through full in person attendance.
The decision reflects the provincial government’s shift away from emergency cost saving measures introduced earlier this year and signals a return to normal public sector operations. While remote work played an important role in reducing fuel consumption during the austerity period, the restoration of full office attendance indicates that the government now considers regular workplace operations essential for maintaining administrative efficiency and public service delivery. The move also aligns with broader efforts to normalize government operations as temporary conservation measures are gradually withdrawn.
