Pakistan’s largest digital operator Jazz has completed a Proof of Concept for a fully converged Single Voice Core, marking a significant development in its ongoing network modernization program. The initiative validates the technical and operational feasibility of bringing multi generation voice services onto a single, unified voice platform designed to support current needs while remaining adaptable for future technologies.

The PoC was carried out in collaboration with Huawei and focused on evaluating the consolidation of legacy 2G voice services together with VoLTE and VoWiFi within a single core architecture. The trial assessed multiple dimensions including performance efficiency, architectural simplification, service interoperability across 2G and 4G layers, and readiness for future 5G voice evolution. By unifying these services, Jazz aims to reduce network complexity while improving operational efficiency and service consistency. The trial environment demonstrated that a converged core can manage diverse access technologies without compromising stability, paving the way for smoother transitions as user demand increasingly shifts toward IP based voice services.

Commenting on the development, Khalid Shehzad, Chief Technology Officer at JazzWorld, said the successful PoC represents an important step in the company’s broader transformation strategy. He noted that unifying voice services across all generations on a single intelligent core simplifies the underlying architecture while ensuring preparedness for next generation technologies. According to him, this approach enables improved service quality today and creates a more agile platform that can support innovation as network requirements evolve. The PoC also confirmed the platform’s ability to support future enhancements without major structural changes, aligning with Jazz’s long term vision for scalable and efficient network operations.

Built on Pakistan’s widest nationwide network, the planned Single Voice Core deployment is expected to support accelerated adoption of VoLTE services at scale. Trial performance indicators highlighted noticeable reductions in call setup times compared to traditional circuit switched networks, along with improvements in call stability and voice clarity. These enhancements are expected to translate into a more reliable calling experience for users across the country. Jazz currently serves more than 73 million customers and holds a market share of 37 percent. With over 30,500 kilometers of optical fiber backbone and more than 17,800 active base stations nationwide, the operator is positioned to deliver consistent, high quality voice services across diverse geographies. For customers, this means clearer calls, faster connections, fewer dropped calls, and dependable connectivity whether using 4G services today or future 5G voice capabilities as they are introduced.
