inDrive, a global mobility and urban services platform, has once again reinforced its leadership in Pakistan’s ride-hailing market by maintaining its position as the number one top free app in the Maps and Navigation category on the Google Play Store, while also securing the number one spot among free travel apps on Apple’s App Store, further consolidating its cross-platform dominance. The sustained performance across both major app distribution platforms reflects a level of consistent user trust that goes well beyond download volumes alone, particularly in a market that has seen considerable competitive churn over the past several years.
Pakistan’s ride-hailing landscape has shifted dramatically since inDrive entered the country in 2021. Careem, which in 2022 counted Pakistan as its top global market with nearly 30 percent of its billion rides originating from the country, has since fallen to a distant third, with just 373,920 daily active users compared to over 2 million for inDrive, according to data analytics platform Data.ai. The erosion of Careem’s position, combined with Uber’s exit from Pakistan in May 2024, has reshaped the competitive order, with inDrive and Yango now occupying the top two positions in a market that continues to grow in both scale and complexity. inDrive’s value proposition of transparent pricing and user-driven fare negotiation appears to be resonating strongly with Pakistani consumers, particularly in a price-sensitive environment where fluctuating costs remain central to commuter decision-making.
According to Sensor Tower’s latest report, inDrive ranked number one in the travel category by downloads in nine countries, with Pakistan among the newcomers to that list, and the platform has now been downloaded over 400 million times since its launch, operating across 1,065 cities in 48 countries and facilitating more than 8 billion transactions globally. The company has also been actively broadening its service offering in Pakistan beyond core ride-hailing. inDrive is expanding its grocery delivery business in Pakistan, making it the second grocery market after Kazakhstan, while simultaneously rolling out in-app advertising across its top 20 markets including Pakistan, as the company works to diversify its revenue mix and deepen user engagement.
Retaining a top position in competitive app store rankings over an extended period is a considerably more demanding challenge than reaching that position initially, as user expectations evolve quickly and platforms must continuously adapt to changing commuter behaviours, economic conditions, and service standards. For inDrive, sustaining the number one ranking across both Android and iOS platforms in Pakistan points to an ongoing alignment between its product offering and what users in a cost-conscious, urban Pakistani market actually want from a mobility application, a combination of price control, transparency, and a progressively expanding set of services that increasingly resembles the super-app model the company is pursuing globally.
