Huawei Technologies has taken a significant step to accelerate Pakistan’s digital transformation by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Ministry of Federal Education and Professional Training (MoFEPT). This landmark agreement focuses on training 300,000 Pakistani students in advanced Information and Communications Technology (ICT) skills, marking the first phase of a large-scale initiative to empower the country’s youth for the future economy.
The MoU was signed by Mr. Nadeem Mahboob, Secretary of MoFEPT, and Mr. Ahmad Aziz, Manager Development at Huawei, during a formal ceremony where both parties committed to this ambitious partnership. The collaboration aims to equip students under the Federal Directorate of Education (FDE) in Islamabad, Azad Jammu & Kashmir (AJK), and Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) with cutting-edge technical expertise in AI, cloud computing, cybersecurity, big data, and other emerging technologies.
Secretary Education Nadeem Mahboob highlighted the program’s potential to boost Pakistan’s IT exports and generate new employment opportunities. He stressed that the initiative would play a critical role in developing a skilled workforce aligned with the government’s vision for a technology-driven economy. Huawei’s Ahmad Aziz reaffirmed the company’s commitment to bridging the digital skills gap through globally recognized certifications and high-quality training.
The program plans to train 300,000 young Pakistanis by the end of 2025. Among these, 60,000 students will receive specialized training in high-tech fields such as AI, cloud computing, cybersecurity, and big data, while 240,000 will gain foundational IT skills. Over 15 Pakistani universities have already integrated Huawei’s ICT courses into their curriculum, successfully training more than 20,000 students to date.
The initiative leverages more than 1,300 labs across the regions, aiming to equip 146,367 students under the Federal Directorate of Education alone. As part of the Prime Minister’s Youth Program, summer camps beginning in June 2025 will target 50,000 students, focusing on advanced technologies to further enhance their competencies.
Huawei will provide essential training and certification support, while MoFEPT will ensure availability of facilities and trainers. This collaboration builds upon Huawei’s existing partnerships with Pakistani educational institutions and highlights the company’s long-term commitment to Pakistan’s digital future.
By investing in ICT education at scale, this initiative is poised to position Pakistan as a competitive hub for IT talent and innovation in the global digital economy.
