Honor has officially confirmed the global launch of its latest foldable smartphone, the Magic V3, set to debut on September 5, 2024, at the IFA 2024 trade show in Berlin. This announcement comes on the heels of the Magic V2’s introduction, which, despite its recent release in China in July 2023, had a delayed global rollout. Honor aims to avoid similar delays with the Magic V3, ensuring a more synchronized launch across markets.

Global Release and Pricing Insights

The Magic V3 was first unveiled in China on July 12, 2024. As for its pricing, Honor has yet to provide official figures for the global market. However, by examining the pricing of previous models, we can anticipate a range. The Honor Magic V2 was priced at £1,699.99/€1,999 in Europe, while the Magic Vs was somewhat more affordable at £1,399/€1,599. Given these benchmarks, it’s challenging to predict the exact cost of the Magic V3, but its starting price in China is approximately CNY 8,999, which translates to around £960/$1,250. However, this conversion might not reflect the final global pricing.

Design and Build

The Honor Magic V3 stands out as one of the thinnest foldable smartphones on the market. When folded, it measures just 9.2mm thick, and it becomes an impressively slim 4.35mm when unfolded. The device weighs 226g and has dimensions of 156.6×145.3mm when unfolded and 156.6×74mm when folded. This slim profile surpasses its competitors, including the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6, which measures 12.1mm when folded and 5.6mm when unfolded.

Notably, Honor has included a unique touch to the Magic V3. The 2.84mm hinge of the device features a hand-engraved apology to Samsung Galaxy Z Fold owners, crafted by micro-artist Graham Short. The engraved message acknowledges the inconvenience of earlier, bulkier foldables and humorously highlights the new Magic V3’s advanced design.

Display and Performance

The Magic V3 boasts impressive display features. The main 7.92-inch OLED screen has a resolution of 2156×2344 pixels, a 120Hz refresh rate, and a peak brightness of 1800 nits. The cover display is a 6.43-inch OLED with a resolution of 1060×2376 pixels, also featuring a 120Hz refresh rate and an extraordinary maximum brightness of 5000 nits.

Under the hood, the Magic V3 is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor. It offers up to 16GB of LPDDR5X RAM and storage options of 256GB, 512GB, or 1TB of UFS 4.0 storage, ensuring robust performance and ample space for users.

Camera System and Battery Life

The device’s camera setup includes a 50MP main sensor with optical image stabilization (OIS), a 50MP telephoto lens with 3.5x optical zoom, and a 40MP ultrawide lens with a 112° field of view. For selfies, there are 20MP cameras on both the internal and external displays.

The Magic V3 is equipped with a 5150mAh battery supporting 66W wired fast charging and 50W wireless charging. This battery capacity represents a slight increase over the Magic V2 but maintains similar charging speeds.

Software and Connectivity

Running on Android 14 with Honor’s MagicOS 8.0.1, the Magic V3 supports Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 5.3, NFC, and two-way satellite connectivity. It also features a USB 3.1 Type-C port with DisplayPort 1.2 support. The phone includes various AI features, such as Google’s Circle to Search and Honor’s privacy-focused Parallel Space, with additional features expected in the global version.

The Honor Magic V3 is poised to make a significant impact in the foldable smartphone market with its sleek design and cutting-edge technology. Stay tuned for more updates as we approach its global release. In the meantime, explore our roundup of the best foldable phones to see how it stacks up against the competition.
