Multiple leaks converging from a Polish retailer listing and an insider podcast have all but confirmed that Grand Theft Auto 6 will feature two distinct graphics modes on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X when it launches on November 19, 2026, splitting players between a Quality mode prioritising visual fidelity and a Performance mode targeting higher frame rates.
The initial leak came from Polish retail chain MediaMarkt, whose pre-order FAQ page briefly described the next-generation console versions as offering two graphics modes to choose from, Performance and Quality, alongside DualSense haptic feedback support on PS5 and fast loading times through SSD storage. The page was subsequently taken down but not before Reddit users captured the full description. Polish podcast Rock and Borys subsequently added the most specific detail yet, claiming through sources connected to Rockstar that the Quality mode targets 30 frames per second while the Performance mode targets 60 frames per second on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X. Critically, the podcast also noted that Rockstar is not yet fully certain whether the 60 frames per second Performance mode will be ready in time for the November 19 launch date, suggesting it could arrive as a post-launch update if not finalised before release.
Xbox Series S presents a separate challenge according to the same sources, with GTA 6 currently running at 30 frames per second on the less powerful console while Rockstar and Microsoft are reportedly collaborating on improving performance, though no guarantee has been given that 60 frames per second will be achievable on Series S hardware at or after launch. Digital Foundry’s independent analysis of both GTA 6 trailers released to date has suggested that achieving a stable 60 frames per second even on base PlayStation 5 hardware would be technically challenging given the density of the visual effects shown, including unique NPC crowds, real-time reflections, and what appears to be ray-traced global illumination used as a core rendering technique rather than an optional layer. The two-mode structure, however, is entirely standard for major PlayStation 5 releases at this point in the console generation, with most blockbuster titles offering exactly this trade-off between resolution and frame rate since the platform launched. Rockstar has made no official statement on graphics modes or frame rate targets, with all currently circulating information derived from retail listings and third-party sources ahead of what is widely expected to be one of the highest-selling video game launches in history.
