FBR collected a significant amount in Point-of-Sale (PoS) service fees during the last fiscal year, according to a report submitted to the National Assembly.

The finance ministry revealed that the FBR collected Rs. 590 million in PoS fees in FY23, compared to Rs. 660 million in FY22 and Rs. 240 million in FY21. The fee, which amounts to Rs. 1 per sale invoice collected by tier-1 retailers, is used to fund the welfare of Inland Revenue Service (IRS) officials and support prize schemes and media campaigns.

However, it’s worth noting that the PoS prize scheme has been temporarily suspended for several months. The FBR’s report did not provide details on the reasons for the suspension or any plans for its reinstatement.
