Following PTCL’s full acquisition of Telenor Pakistan and Orion Towers, Awais Naseem Vohra has been appointed as the company’s acting CEO, marking a significant leadership shift in the country’s telecom sector. Vohra, known for his strategic vision and technical depth, has been a key figure at Telenor for more than two decades and played a pivotal role in shaping its technology, digital innovation, and sustainability initiatives. His appointment reflects PTCL’s focus on integrating operational excellence with forward-looking strategies as it consolidates its market presence and prepares for future growth.

Vohra joined Telenor Pakistan in 2004 during its pre-launch phase, contributing to early network operations and gradually advancing through roles in operations and strategy. He briefly served as VP Network Operations at Jazz from 2018 to 2020 before returning to Telenor as VP Technology Operations and later rising to Chief Technology Officer in October 2021. During his tenure as CTO, Vohra oversaw network strategy, digital transformation, cybersecurity compliance, and sustainability projects, positioning Telenor as one of Pakistan’s leading telecom innovators. His educational foundation includes an engineering degree from UET Lahore, a business management degree from LUMS, and executive training through INSEAD’s Strategy Execution Program, combining technical expertise with strategic leadership.

Under Vohra’s guidance, Telenor Pakistan emerged as a prominent voice on AI, cybersecurity, and sustainable infrastructure. He keynoted Telenor Pakistan’s AI Day in September 2025, addressing challenges such as infrastructure gaps, AI literacy, and policy development while emphasizing ethical deployment of artificial intelligence. He also led initiatives that earned Telenor consecutive top honors at PTA’s Telecom Cyber Security Awards in 2025, highlighting compliance with Critical Telecom Data and Infrastructure Security Regulations. Vohra further drove strategic partnerships, including a Huawei Core Cloud Modernization agreement to enhance AI services, ZTE microwave trials achieving record transmission speeds, and Pakistan’s first low-carbon Energy as a Service project with Brillanz Group, reducing reliance on diesel power.

Vohra’s tenure also featured projects aimed at operational efficiency and transparency, including SAP-powered Commission Management Systems for retail operations and smart metering pilots in AJ&K. His leadership reflects a philosophy of resilient and efficient networks, even amid energy challenges and rapid digital growth. Known for his low-profile yet impactful approach, Vohra represents a new wave of innovation-driven leadership in Pakistan’s telecom sector. As PTCL integrates Telenor and prepares for 5G deployments, his experience in technology, AI, and sustainable infrastructure is expected to guide the company toward future-ready connectivity while enhancing service delivery and market competitiveness.
