Once the app detects the disconnection, it drops a pin at the vehicle’s location. This pin remains visible for up to 48 hours and disappears automatically when the user starts driving again, keeping the map clear and easy to navigate. Users who have set a custom car icon in Google Maps will see their chosen icon instead of the default “P” marker, adding a personalized touch to the feature and making it easier to quickly identify their parked vehicle on the map.
Senior Product Manager Rio Akasaka shared details about the update on LinkedIn, describing it as a “personal parking maps velvet,” emphasizing its seamless and intuitive design. At present, this feature is exclusively available to iOS users. Android users will continue to manually save parking locations until a future update introduces the functionality to their devices.
