Pakistan’s telecom industry has undergone a significant transformation in recent years, with operators investing heavily in infrastructure upgrades. A new report from PTA reveals that more than 10,000 new sites were added by Cellular Mobile Operators (CMOs) between 2019 and 2023.

Jazz, Zong, Ufone, Telenor, and SCO all contributed to the expansion, with Jazz leading the way by adding over 3,000 new sites. The increased infrastructure has been driven by factors such as the global phase-out of 3G networks, which freed up spectrum for faster 4G and 5G technologies.

PTA’s efforts to improve voice call quality through VoLTE and VoWiFi, along with the acquisition of additional spectrum, have also played a crucial role in enhancing network capacity and performance. These investments have resulted in significant improvements in internet speeds and overall connectivity across the country.

Independent assessments have shown that data rates and latency have increased markedly in recent years, reflecting the positive impact of the telecom industry’s infrastructure expansion. As Pakistan continues to embrace digital technologies, the growing network capacity will be essential for supporting the country’s economic development and digital transformation.
