On Tuesday, the renowned ride-sharing app Careem achieved a significant milestone, completing one billion rides worldwide. Pakistan emerged as the leading contributor to this achievement in the Middle East, North Africa, and Pakistan regions.

The company’s statement revealed that Careem captains have traveled over 9 billion kilometers across more than 80 cities in the past decade. Among all countries, Pakistan recorded the highest number of rides to date with 299 million, followed by Saudi Arabia with 242 million and Egypt with 230 million.

In 2020, the longest Careem journey covered 1,113 kilometers from Riyadh to Jazan in Saudi Arabia, while the shortest trip was a mere 200 meters in Lahore.

Careem currently boasts over 50 million registered consumers and 2.5 million registered captains who have collectively earned over $4 billion. The Jordanian captains set a record with 35,139 excursions, showcasing their dedication to the service.

Captain Razak Uppattil, a veteran of four years with the company and hailing from Kerala, India, had the honor of completing the one billionth voyage in Qatar. He has impressively made 10,500 trips on the platform and received a well-deserved vacation to his homeland as a token of appreciation.

The billionth passenger, Genera Tesora from the Philippines, is a frequent traveler with more than 50 journeys each month. In recognition of her cooperation, Careem rewarded her with a year’s worth of ride-hailing excursions.

Mudassir Sheikha, CEO, and co-founder of Careem expressed his gratitude, acknowledging the dedication of captains and colleagues. The milestone signifies the company’s positive impact on mobility and employment prospects, aiming to make life easier for the local communities.

The journey began in September 2012 when Careem pioneered manually scheduled journeys in the United Arab Emirates. As the first ride-hailing company to accept cash payments, Careem’s popularity surged, with digital payments now accounting for 44% of all transactions.

Beyond ride-hailing, Careem offers a diverse range of services, including food and grocery delivery, micro-mobility, payments, and partner services like home cleaning, car rental, event booking, and on-demand laundry services. The company’s success story continues, unlocking the region’s untapped potential and striving for a better future.
