In a compelling push toward Sindh’s digital empowerment and economic modernization, the Department of Information Technology at Shaheed Benazir Bhutto University (SBBU), Shaheed Benazirabad, hosted a high-impact seminar titled “Driving Sindh Toward a Smarter Economic Future Through Digital Transformation.” The event, held at the university’s Multi-Purpose Hall, brought together academic leaders, government officials, faculty, and students to deliberate on how digital innovation can accelerate inclusive growth and prosperity in the province.

The seminar was organized under the guidance of Engineer Prof. Dr. Madad Ali Shah, the Vice Chancellor of SBBU, who has consistently supported initiatives that bridge academia with real-world digital trends. The keynote address was delivered by Dr. Rana Shahzad Qaiser, Director General of the IT Department, Government of Sindh. His remarks focused on the urgent need to align Sindh’s youth with the digital economy in order to cultivate a smart, sustainable, and inclusive economic future.

Dr. Qaiser stressed that the province must prioritize technological advancements, policy innovation, and digital education to prepare the next generation for leadership in an increasingly tech-driven world. “This is not just a technical shift—it’s a societal imperative,” he said, emphasizing that digital transformation is the key to unlocking Sindh’s full economic potential. He noted that targeted digital awareness among students, both male and female, is essential for a balanced and equitable tech-forward economy.

He also highlighted that effective digital transformation requires a collaborative ecosystem involving the government, academic institutions, and industry players. His address underscored the importance of building strong foundations in digital literacy, e-governance, and tech infrastructure, especially within universities and youth development platforms.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Mairaj Nabi Bhatti, Chairman of the Department of Information Technology at SBBU, emphasized that such seminars are more than academic exercises—they are incubators for research, innovation, and creativity. According to Dr. Bhatti, encouraging students to engage in forward-looking discussions fosters a dynamic educational environment where young minds can critically explore the role of digital tools in addressing real-world challenges.

He added that exposure to thought leaders and policymakers inspires students to think beyond textbooks and embrace problem-solving through technology, ultimately contributing to Sindh’s digital ecosystem. “This is how we create future-ready graduates who not only enter the job market but shape it,” Dr. Bhatti said.

The event concluded with an interactive Q&A session, where students engaged with speakers on practical pathways for becoming active contributors to Sindh’s tech transformation. Topics ranged from digital skills development to policy advocacy and smart city models.

Organized with meticulous planning and community engagement, the seminar reflects a growing commitment within academic institutions to prepare students for leadership in the digital age. With support from government departments and continued dialogue across sectors, such initiatives are pivotal in setting a strategic direction for Sindh’s digital economy.

Kashif Noorani, Media Coordinator at Shaheed Benazir Bhutto University, facilitated media coverage and communications for the seminar.
