The Punjab government has taken a formal decision to transition all government offices across the province to a fully paperless model, marking a significant step in the province’s ongoing digital governance agenda. The decision was made during a Secretaries’ Conference chaired by the Chief Secretary of Punjab at the Civil Secretariat, attended by senior provincial officials, with divisional commissioners and deputy commissioners participating through video link from across the province.
At the heart of the directive is the integration of all district-level government offices with the e-Faas digital filing platform, which will replace conventional paper-based correspondence with fully digital workflows. The Chief Secretary announced that beginning July 1, all field offices across Punjab will be required to conduct official communication exclusively through the e-Faas system, setting a firm provincial deadline for compliance. The system is expected to improve transparency, reduce administrative delays, and significantly accelerate the pace at which official documents and approvals move through government channels, removing the bottlenecks that have historically been associated with paper-based file management in public offices.
The conference also reviewed broader progress on information technology reforms and digital governance initiatives currently underway across the province. Officials acknowledged the Punjab Information Technology Board for its continued role in driving technological modernisation within the provincial administration and supporting the delivery of digital transformation projects at scale. PITB has been the primary implementing body behind e-Faas and a range of other e-governance tools that Punjab has deployed over the past several years, establishing the province as one of the more digitally active administrative units in Pakistan.
Government sources noted that the shift to a paperless district administration is part of a wider effort to modernise public service delivery and bring greater accountability to day-to-day government functioning. The conference also took note of the province-wide cleanliness operation conducted during Eid al-Adha, which officials described as a well-coordinated administrative effort across districts.
