PTCL has officially completed the long-awaited integration of Telenor Pakistan into Pak Telecom Mobile Limited (PTML), the company operating under the Ufone brand, bringing an end to one of the largest acquisitions in Pakistan’s telecommunications industry. The transaction concludes a regulatory process that lasted more than two years and transforms the country’s competitive telecom landscape by creating Pakistan’s second-largest mobile operator. With the merger now finalized, Telenor Pakistan will cease to exist as a separate legal entity, with its customers, network assets, spectrum holdings and operations becoming part of Ufone. The completion of the acquisition also triggered a strong positive response from investors, with PTCL’s share price rising significantly as markets welcomed the conclusion of the landmark deal.
The integration substantially strengthens Ufone’s position in Pakistan’s mobile sector by combining the subscriber bases, network infrastructure and spectrum resources of both operators. The merged company now serves more than 70 million mobile subscribers, placing it behind Jazz while moving ahead of Zong in terms of market size. The consolidation also gives Ufone access to a significantly larger spectrum portfolio across multiple frequency bands, allowing the operator to improve network capacity, enhance 4G performance and accelerate the nationwide rollout of 5G services. The expanded infrastructure is expected to improve coverage, increase network reliability and support the growing demand for high-speed mobile broadband across urban and rural areas.
For existing customers, PTCL has stated that service continuity remains a priority throughout the integration process. Subscribers from both networks are expected to continue using existing SIM cards and services while backend systems, network infrastructure and customer platforms are gradually unified. Over time, customers are expected to benefit from stronger network performance, wider coverage, improved digital services and a more extensive retail and support network. The combined operator is also expected to optimize operational efficiencies by integrating towers, transmission infrastructure and core network resources while reducing duplication across business functions.
The successful completion of the acquisition represents a defining moment for Pakistan’s telecom industry, reflecting an ongoing shift toward larger, infrastructure-rich operators capable of supporting next-generation digital services. With increased spectrum resources, stronger financial capacity and a significantly larger customer base, the newly expanded Ufone is expected to play a central role in Pakistan’s digital future by driving investments in 5G, expanding broadband connectivity and supporting the country’s growing digital economy. The merger is also likely to intensify competition among telecom operators as companies continue investing in network modernization, innovative digital services and enhanced customer experiences in an increasingly data-driven market.
