P@SHA and NCCS Join Forces to Strengthen Cybersecurity Collaboration in Pakistan

P@SHA and National Centre for Cyber Security (NCCS) have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) at AIR University on May 27, 2025, marking a significant step forward in strengthening cybersecurity collaboration across academia and industry. This strategic alliance is designed to boost cooperation in developing indigenous cybersecurity solutions and fortifying Pakistan’s digital defenses through joint efforts in education, research, and innovation.

The MoU was formalized by Ali Hasani, Secretary General of P@SHA, and Dr. Ammar Masood, Director of NCCS and Dean of the Faculty of Computing & AI at AIR University. The signing took place during the Opening Ceremony of AIR University’s Annual Final Year Projects Expo, a platform that showcases the innovation and talent of emerging computer science and AI professionals.

Dr. Sonia Saleem, P@SHA CEC Member and Chair of the Diversity & Inclusion Committee, served as the Chief Guest at the event, underlining P@SHA’s commitment to empowering the next generation of cybersecurity professionals and promoting inclusive participation within the tech sector. Her presence also symbolized the increasing recognition of the pivotal role academia plays in equipping students with practical and industry-relevant skills.

The ceremony brought together academic and institutional stakeholders who have been actively contributing to the growth of Pakistan’s cyber landscape. Among the attendees were Dr. Zunera Jalil, Dean NCCS at AIR University, Dr. Mehdi Hassan, Head of the Computer Science Department, and Dr. Hameedur Rahman, Head of the Game Development Department. Representing the operational and strategic wings of AIR University and NCCS were Mr. Wehaaj Sulehri, Manager of the Office of Research, Innovation and Commercialization (ORIC), and Mr. Bilal Afzal, Program Manager at NCCS.

This MoU is part of a broader national effort to encourage self-reliance in cybersecurity by aligning academic initiatives with industry needs. P@SHA, which represents Pakistan’s IT and IT-enabled services sector, has been actively engaging with public and private stakeholders to foster growth through innovation, partnerships, and policy advocacy. By teaming up with NCCS, a premier institution focused on advancing cybersecurity knowledge and capabilities, P@SHA aims to unlock new avenues for collaboration in research and development, training programs, and knowledge exchange.

The partnership underscores the importance of collaborative action in addressing emerging cyber threats and enhancing digital resilience. It also opens up opportunities for students and faculty at AIR University to work closely with the industry on real-world cybersecurity challenges, thereby accelerating the development of homegrown technologies and skilled professionals.

As Pakistan continues to invest in building a secure and robust digital infrastructure, such academia-industry collaborations are expected to play a key role in shaping the country’s cyber future.
