Anthropic has brought Claude Cowork to its Claude for Chrome browser extension, allowing users to access the AI productivity tool directly from a Chrome sidebar. The update connects Cowork more closely with the browser based version of Claude and gives users a way to start and continue tasks without leaving their active browsing session. The company says conversations conducted through the Chrome side panel will become part of the user’s Claude history, while existing skills and connectors can also be used within the browser experience. The feature is currently available to Max and Team subscribers, while Pro users are expected to receive access in the coming weeks.
The integration is designed to make Claude Cowork more useful for users who regularly perform work inside Google Chrome. Rather than requiring users to switch between a standalone application and their browser, the new sidebar allows Claude to remain accessible alongside open webpages and other browser activities. Users can begin a task in the Claude desktop application and continue it through Chrome, or start work in the browser and pick it up later through another supported Claude application. This cross platform continuity is supported by conversation history, allowing users to maintain context as they move between devices and environments. Anthropic has also confirmed that Cowork skills and connectors work within the browser extension, giving users access to connected tools while working through Chrome.
Claude Cowork is positioned as a more accessible alternative to Claude Code for users who want an AI agent to handle multi step tasks without requiring advanced programming knowledge. While Claude Code is primarily aimed at software development and coding workflows, Cowork is designed for broader productivity tasks and can work with files, applications and connected services. Anthropic has been expanding Cowork across different platforms, with the service now available through desktop applications and web based experiences in addition to its Chrome integration. The company’s current software ecosystem also includes Claude Code, Claude in Chrome and other tools intended to bring its AI models into users’ existing workflows.
The Chrome integration also expands the practical role of Claude as an AI assistant that can operate alongside users’ everyday browser activities. Anthropic has previously developed Claude for Chrome to allow its AI tools to interact more directly with browser based workflows, while the latest Cowork integration brings the task focused experience into the same environment. For users subscribed to eligible plans, the sidebar can provide a more direct route to Claude Cowork without requiring a separate application window. As Pro access rolls out in the coming weeks, the feature is expected to become available to a wider group of paying Claude users. The move further positions Chrome as another workspace where Anthropic’s AI tools can maintain conversations, use connected capabilities and help users complete tasks across different applications and devices.
