The Pakistan Software Export Board, in coordination with the State Bank of Pakistan, has updated the list of designated bank branches available to information technology exporters as part of an ongoing effort to reduce friction in financial operations and improve access to export earnings and regulatory facilitation for the country’s growing digital services sector. The enhanced banking support framework represents a structured response to longstanding concerns from information technology companies, freelancers, call centres, and information technology-enabled services exporters about the difficulties they face in navigating foreign exchange regulations and repatriating earnings through the formal banking system.
The designated branches have been selected and equipped specifically for their expertise in foreign exchange regulations as they apply to the unique operational and compliance needs of information technology and information technology-enabled services exporters. Unlike standard commercial banking branches, these designated outlets are designed to handle the specific documentation requirements, transaction structures, and regulatory processes that arise when export earnings flow into Pakistan from international clients and platforms, a category of transaction that has historically been a source of significant administrative friction for smaller exporters, freelancers, and early-stage technology companies operating at scale. By concentrating specialised knowledge and capacity within an identified network of branches, the framework aims to make it meaningfully easier for exporters to access their earnings, process foreign exchange transactions, and meet State Bank of Pakistan compliance requirements without the delays and complications that have historically characterised the experience.
The initiative forms part of the broader Markaz Facilitation programme through which PSEB has been working to address structural barriers facing Pakistan’s technology export sector, in alignment with the Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication’s Tech Destination Pakistan vision. Pakistan’s information technology exports have been recording consistent growth, and the ability of the sector to scale further depends in part on resolving the banking and financial infrastructure challenges that have deterred some exporters from bringing earnings through formal channels. Information technology exporters are encouraged to consult the updated list of designated branches, which is available at https://lnkd.in/d63qVUMu, to identify the most accessible and appropriately equipped branch for their financial facilitation needs.
