Zong has partnered with the Pakistan Airports Authority to launch Pakistan’s first dedicated 5G Customer Facilitation and Sales Kiosk at Islamabad International Airport, establishing a new benchmark for in-airport digital infrastructure and marking the country’s first formal deployment of 5G-ready customer services within an aviation transit environment. The initiative addresses what Zong describes as one of the most critical and underserved moments in a traveller’s journey: the immediate transition from arrival to real-world connectivity, a window in which demand for digital access is at its highest and where friction in obtaining it has historically been a persistent pain point.
The kiosk is designed to provide arriving passengers with seamless and immediate access to the digital services they require upon landing. These include real-time communication for instant connectivity, high-speed data access for ride-hailing platforms and digital navigation, integration into Pakistan’s digital payments ecosystem, and operational support for smooth movement through the terminal. By positioning 5G-enabled facilitation at the point of arrival rather than requiring passengers to seek out connectivity independently, the deployment brings digital infrastructure to where demand is most concentrated and time-sensitive. Faheem Durrani, Head of Sales and Distribution at Zong, said that airports are critical digital touchpoints where immediate and reliable connectivity is essential, and that the initiative enables travellers to seamlessly integrate into Pakistan’s digital ecosystem from the moment they arrive, delivering connectivity where demand is most immediate and impactful.
The Director General of the Pakistan Airports Authority described the deployment as part of a broader institutional strategy to modernise airport infrastructure across Pakistan and integrate advanced digital capabilities into the aviation ecosystem, noting that initiatives of this nature represent an important step toward building smarter, more connected airports aligned with global aviation standards and future demand. The collaboration involved senior leadership from both organisations, including the Deputy Director General of the Pakistan Airports Authority, the Director Commercial and Estate at headquarters, and the Airport Manager and Senior Joint Director Commercial at Islamabad International Airport. Building on the Islamabad deployment, Zong and the Pakistan Airports Authority have confirmed plans to scale the initiative to other major aviation hubs including Lahore and Karachi, extending 5G-ready facilitation to the country’s two other busiest international terminals as part of a wider effort to embed next-generation connectivity across Pakistan’s most critical transit infrastructure.
