The Punjab Information Technology Board has entered into a formal agreement with Government College University Lahore for the implementation of the Electronic File and Office Automation System, commonly known as e FOAS, marking another step towards digitizing administrative processes in the public sector. The memorandum of understanding was signed between PITB Director Development and Procurement Ata Ur Rehman and Registrar GCU Lahore Dr. Shoukat Ali, in the presence of senior officials from both institutions. Among those in attendance were PITB Additional Director General Khurram Mushtaq and Joint Director Operations Ishfaq Ali, along with members of the university’s senior management.

The agreement focuses on deploying e FOAS within GCU Lahore to replace conventional manual file handling systems with a fully digital workflow. Developed by PITB, the system has already been implemented across multiple government departments and has demonstrated its ability to streamline administrative operations. By introducing this platform within the university, both institutions aim to improve efficiency in day to day processes, enabling faster decision making and more structured communication across departments.

The e FOAS platform is designed to facilitate internal and external correspondence through a centralized digital interface, allowing users to manage files, assign tasks, and track progress in real time. It also supports improved transparency by maintaining a complete digital record of communications and actions taken within the system. This reduces the likelihood of delays and enhances accountability across administrative functions. Additionally, the transition to a paperless environment is expected to significantly reduce operational costs associated with printing, storage, and manual record keeping.

This collaboration reflects a broader push towards adopting information and communication technology solutions within educational institutions, aligning them with modern governance practices. By leveraging PITB’s expertise in developing scalable digital tools, GCU Lahore is set to modernize its administrative framework while contributing to the wider objective of promoting a paperless culture in Punjab. The initiative underscores the importance of integrating technology into institutional operations to ensure efficiency, transparency, and sustainability in the long term.
