Pakistan’s transition toward fifth generation mobile connectivity has taken another step forward as early testing of the technology has begun to demonstrate promising speeds. Jazz Chief Executive Officer Aamir Ibrahim shared results from an early network test that recorded download speeds of 1,400 megabits per second on a mobile device connected to a 5G signal. The result was shared through a post on the social media platform X, where the executive uploaded a screenshot of a Speedtest result showing the handset operating on a fifth generation network. The test result provides an early glimpse into the performance levels that could become available to consumers once the country begins the gradual rollout of next generation mobile services.

According to the information shared by the company executive, the test was conducted in the F 7 sector of Islamabad, indicating that network trials may already be underway in selected locations soon after the completion of Pakistan’s latest spectrum auction. The screenshot shared online shows a mobile device connected to a 5G network achieving download speeds of approximately 1,400 megabits per second, a figure that significantly exceeds the speeds typically available on existing fourth generation mobile networks. While the test does not represent commercial service availability, it offers a preview of the potential improvements in mobile broadband performance that the technology could bring once the rollout expands to wider areas.

Industry observers note that the move toward 5G connectivity is expected to enable a wide range of digital services that require faster data transfer and reduced latency. Higher network speeds and improved reliability could support applications such as high definition video streaming, cloud based gaming, real time digital communication, and advanced mobile services that rely on consistent high bandwidth connections. Telecommunications operators are currently preparing their networks for the transition as the sector begins adapting infrastructure that can support the demands of next generation connectivity and the growing number of connected devices across the country.

The testing activity comes shortly after Pakistan concluded its most recent spectrum auction, a process that allocated new frequency bands intended to support both expanded fourth generation services and the eventual rollout of fifth generation networks. During the auction process, Jazz emerged as the largest spectrum acquirer, securing 190 megahertz of spectrum across four newly introduced frequency bands. The additional spectrum allocation is expected to enhance network capacity and provide the technical foundation required for future 5G deployments. While telecom operators have yet to announce a confirmed commercial launch timeline, the early testing results suggest that preparations for next generation mobile connectivity are already progressing as the telecommunications industry moves toward the next phase of Pakistan’s digital infrastructure development.
