A delegation from Pakistan Navy Engineering College Karachi, a constituent institution of the National University of Sciences and Technology, visited the Punjab Information Technology Board as part of an industrial visit activity designed to expose Pakistan Navy Under Training Officers to real-world applications of information and communication technology in public service delivery. The visit gave the officers a structured opportunity to understand how technology is being used to transform governance and citizen services across Punjab, and how several of these initiatives have since been replicated by other provinces across the country.
PITB Director General Information Technology Solutions Waqar Naeem Qureshi and Syed Qasim Ifzal delivered presentations covering the full spectrum of technology-driven initiatives that PITB has implemented across Punjab, from digital health and education systems to land records automation, law enforcement technology, and citizen-facing service platforms. The briefing also included a video walkthrough of the Government of Punjab’s flagship digital governance initiatives, giving the delegation a visual and contextual understanding of how these systems operate at scale across one of the most populous provinces in Pakistan. The presentations highlighted not only the technical architecture of these solutions but also their measurable impact on administrative efficiency, transparency, and public access to government services.
Following the presentations, the delegation toured the facilities of Arfa Software Technology Park, where PITB Additional Director General Administration Zulfiqar Ali Shaheen and PITB Director Haroon Rasul Khokhar provided an overview of the different systems and procedures managed from the technology park, which serves as a central hub for PITB’s operational and development activities. The visit concluded with a briefing on citizen-centric services delivered through the e-Khidmat Markaz network, Punjab’s one-window facilitation centres that bring multiple government services under a single roof and allow citizens to access documentation, registration, and verification services without navigating multiple departments.
The core purpose of the industrial visit was to give Pakistan Navy Engineering College officers meaningful exposure to field-level information technology operations and to demonstrate concretely how digital tools are reshaping the delivery of public services in Pakistan. For officers being trained in engineering and technology disciplines at one of Pakistan’s premier defence academic institutions, understanding how government bodies like PITB conceptualise, build, and deploy technology solutions at a provincial scale provides valuable real-world perspective that complements theoretical and laboratory-based learning. The visit reflects a growing recognition across Pakistan’s academic and defence institutions that digital governance is a domain where future officers and professionals need direct exposure and informed understanding.
