Pakistan’s IT and telecom sector posted its highest ever export earnings in the 2025-26 fiscal year, reaching $4.6 billion, though the industry fell short of the government’s $5 billion export target. Official data showed that IT and telecom export remittances rose from $3.814 billion in the previous fiscal year to $4.6 billion this year, marking annual growth of around 20.6 percent.

The sector closed out the fiscal year on a strong note, with export remittances climbing to $416 million in June 2026, higher than the $373 million recorded in May 2026 and the $339 million seen in June of the previous year. The figures pointed to solid growth on both a monthly and yearly basis, offsetting an earlier slowdown recorded by the State Bank of Pakistan, which had shown IT and telecom export remittances dropping to $373 million in May from a record $423 million in April, a decline of nearly twelve percent following several months of strong performance.

Despite that temporary dip, the sector maintained steady growth across the year as a whole. During the first eleven months of the fiscal year, from July through May, cumulative export remittances reached $4.184 billion, compared with $3.475 billion during the same period a year earlier, representing growth of more than twenty percent. The year also saw some fluctuation along the way, with export remittances falling from $437 million in December to $374 million in January and then to $365 million in February, before recovering to $413 million in March and reaching a record $423 million in April.

Although Pakistan did not reach its $5 billion export target for the year, the IT industry remained one of the country’s strongest performing export sectors. Rising global demand for software services played a major role in driving this growth, while higher freelance earnings and the expanding international presence of Pakistani technology firms continued to support the sector’s overall performance throughout the fiscal year.
