Pakistan Digital Authority Projects 60-80 Billion Dollar GDP Uplift From Digitalization

The Pakistan Digital Authority has projected that digital transformation could unlock between 60 and 80 billion dollars in gross domestic product uplift for Pakistan over the next five years, framing the figure as evidence of the country’s broader digital opportunity. The authority shared the projection under its Digital Nation Pakistan branding, describing a better future as within reach if the country can align its digital efforts nationally.

The projection falls under PDA’s mandate as the national authority responsible for implementing Pakistan’s National Digital Masterplan, a comprehensive strategic framework designed to coordinate efforts across digital governance, the digital economy, digital society and digital infrastructure. Established under the Digital Nation Pakistan Act of 2025, PDA has positioned itself as the central body tasked with building world class digital infrastructure nationwide, developing a skilled digital workforce, creating enabling regulatory frameworks for digital innovation and ensuring data protection and cybersecurity for citizens, all aimed at transforming Pakistan into a leading digital nation by 2030.

The figure builds on a broader body of research pointing to significant untapped economic value from digital adoption in Pakistan. A previous Google commissioned report titled Unlocking Pakistan’s Digital Potential had estimated that digital transformation could unlock up to 9.7 trillion rupees, or roughly 59.7 billion dollars, in annual economic value by 2030, equivalent to about 19 percent of the country’s GDP at the time of that report. That earlier study identified agriculture and food, consumer and retail, and education and training as sectors expected to see the largest benefits from digital adoption, alongside key enabling technologies such as mobile internet, cloud computing, artificial intelligence and fintech.

PDA’s latest projection reflects the authority’s continued effort to frame digital transformation as a national economic priority rather than a purely technical undertaking, aligning with its broader push to bridge the digital divide between urban and rural areas, promote digital entrepreneurship and position Pakistan as a regional digital hub. As Pakistan continues rolling out digital public infrastructure projects, including expanded connectivity, unified citizen services platforms and cloud based government systems, PDA’s messaging around large scale GDP potential is intended to build momentum and public buy in for coordinated digital efforts across government, industry and citizens over the coming years.
