Nokia and Transworld have teamed up to create a robust optical transport network stretching across Pakistan, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), and Oman.

Under this collaboration, Transworld Associates (TWA) will utilize Nokia’s optical transport solution to construct a new optical network linking Pakistan, UAE, and Oman as part of its submarine capacity expansion initiative.

In addition to this, a submarine capacity backhaul system is being implemented in Karachi Metro to facilitate regional transformation by accommodating the escalating demand for data and bandwidth links between data centers.

The new optical network will offer a capacity of 9.2Tb/s, catering to the growing connectivity needs of businesses and end users across the region. Featuring a capacity of 28.8Tb/s, the submarine backhaul system will boast a per-wavelength data rate of 600Gb/s.

To meet TWA’s increasing bandwidth requirements, Nokia will deploy its 1830 Photonic Service Switch platforms, powered by fifth-generation super-coherent Photonic Service Engine (PSE-Vs). This solution effectively manages large data volumes, optimizes network performance, and promotes environmental sustainability through its low energy consumption per bit.

Furthermore, Nokia will utilize its advanced CDC-F (Colorless Directionless Contentionless and Flexgrid) technology to enhance end-user experience, establish a secure and resilient network, and provide higher bandwidth for webscalers in the region.

The network will initially handle terabits of traffic with 600Gbps per lambda, with future expansions planned to support 1.2T per lambda transmission.

Saad Muzaffar Waraich, President and CEO of Transworld Associates, expressed enthusiasm about introducing a cutting-edge network that is futureproof and capable of handling terabytes of traffic efficiently. He emphasized the importance of leveraging Nokia’s technology to empower customers and seize new business opportunities.

Rima Manna, VP Network Infrastructure Middle East at Nokia, highlighted the excitement of introducing groundbreaking technology in new regions and expressed readiness to set a new connectivity and performance benchmark in the region in collaboration with TWA.
