The National Information Technology Board has highlighted its BEEP application as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen secure communication infrastructure for government employees under the Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication. The update, shared through an official LinkedIn post by the organisation, reflects continued progress in rolling out indigenous digital tools aimed at improving confidentiality, efficiency, and reliability in official communication systems across federal departments. The initiative forms part of a broader push towards digital governance and secure internal collaboration within public sector institutions.
BEEP is a government-developed communication platform designed to offer a secure alternative to widely used commercial messaging applications. It integrates multiple features including encrypted messaging, voice and video calling, conference communication, and secure file transfer capabilities. The system has been developed under the supervision of NITB to ensure that official communication remains within a controlled and locally hosted digital environment, reducing dependency on foreign platforms for sensitive government interactions. The platform is currently being introduced in phases across selected federal divisions as part of pilot testing and structured rollout planning.
According to earlier updates, the BEEP application has already undergone security assessments and is being integrated into select ministries including the Cabinet Division, Planning Division, and the IT Division on a pilot basis. Officials have indicated that user accounts for government employees have been created, and training and onboarding sessions are being conducted to facilitate smooth adoption across departments. The platform is intended to support not only messaging but also official document sharing, ensuring that communication remains aligned with data protection and administrative compliance requirements set by government protocols.
The development of BEEP aligns with NITB’s broader mandate of advancing e-governance and modernising public sector IT systems in Pakistan. As a federal institution responsible for implementing digital transformation initiatives, NITB has been working on multiple projects to improve service delivery and interdepartmental coordination through technology-driven solutions. The introduction of secure communication platforms is seen as a key step in strengthening digital infrastructure, particularly in an environment where cybersecurity and data protection remain central priorities for government operations. The initiative is also part of wider efforts under Digital Pakistan to build self-reliant and secure digital ecosystems for public service delivery.
