The National Highways and Motorway Police has launched a cashless payment system for driving license fees, allowing citizens across Pakistan to complete their payments digitally without requiring a visit to a physical bank branch. The system was inaugurated by Deputy Inspector General Operations Asghar Ali, as part of efforts to simplify public service delivery and improve convenience for applicants, with citizens now able to pay license fees through mobile platforms such as Easypaisa, JazzCash, and other banking applications, enabling faster and more accessible transactions.
In collaboration with the National Bank of Pakistan, QR code machines have been installed at the Islamabad Driving Licensing Authority, with similar installations underway in Sheikhupura and Quetta to expand the service nationwide. Officials said the system will reduce processing time, eliminate the need for physical bank visits, and provide real-time payment confirmation. The phased rollout across multiple cities signals an intent to make cashless driving license payments the standard experience rather than a pilot limited to the capital, with the three initial locations representing a mix of urban centres and provincial coverage that gives the programme immediate national relevance.
The initiative fits within a broader pattern of public service digitization across Pakistan’s law enforcement and transport agencies, following similar cashless and mobile-first reforms in vehicle registration, traffic challans, and fitness certificates. For citizens applying for new licenses, renewals, or duplicate documents, the ability to pay through a mobile wallet or banking application removes one of the most friction-heavy steps in the process, which previously required generating a payment slip and visiting a designated bank branch during working hours. With Pakistan’s mobile wallet penetration continuing to grow through platforms like Easypaisa and JazzCash, routing driving license payments through these channels ensures that the service is accessible to a wide segment of the population, including those who do not maintain conventional bank accounts but regularly transact through mobile money platforms.
