IMARAT Group, a leading corporate entity, has unveiled the highly anticipated second phase of its signature Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) endeavor, “TameerSeTaleem.” This campaign centers on advocating the reuse of construction waste and surplus materials to rehabilitate underprivileged schools in slum areas.
Last year, “TameerSeTaleem” gained significant attention on social media for its innovative concept of repurposing wood waste to create furniture for low-income schools. This year, the initiative has expanded its scope to encompass the complete renovation of a school using leftover construction materials and waste.
According to Shafiq Akbar, Chairman of IMARAT Group, “TameerSeTaleem” aligns with his long-term vision of rebuilding Pakistan and aims to promote sustainable development and educational equity in underserved areas of the country.
In a statement during the renowned “TameerSeTaleem” documentary, Shafiq Akbar elaborated on the campaign’s core concept: “The focus is on the management of construction waste materials. There are thousands of ongoing construction projects across Pakistan, and many underprivileged local schools near these project sites can significantly benefit from the efficient utilization of construction waste. So, I invite all the major players in our sector to join hands with us and support our next generation.”
In its initial phase, “TameerSeTaleem” repurposed wood waste to create more than 100 furniture items for the Baithak School, located in Mehrabadi, Islamabad. The Baithak School Network encompasses 143 schools nationwide, serving over 18,000 students.
Now, in phase two, the team has undertaken the renovation of a deteriorating school within the same network, situated at Golra Road, E-12. The renovation project leveraged leftover construction materials such as cement, concrete cylinders, paint, and wood waste sourced from construction sites.
The “TameerSeTaleem” team emphasized the dire condition of over 50,000 schools in Pakistan affected by urban decay, including the Golra Road school. They described its initial state as detrimental to students, with soiled walls, seepage, and a substantial amount of garbage surrounding the premises.
With a commitment to rejuvenating the school, IMARAT Group conducted extensive renovations, including roof repairs, wall repainting, and the installation of concrete cylinders. Collaborating with Team WorthAWhile, company employees, teachers, and students infused creativity into the project, adorning the walls with artistic designs.
In addition, a collaborative cleaning drive involving the Capital Development Authority and the District Commissioner’s office was organized to eliminate the garbage surrounding the school.
Zoha Javed, the project lead for “TameerSeTaleem,” stressed the importance of educating children about climate change, particularly in areas prone to urban floods and heavy rains. She explained, “To introduce the concept of sustainable development, we painted the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) on the school walls. This way, every student will be exposed to and understand the SDGs throughout their primary education.”
IMARAT Group’s leadership envisions “TameerSeTaleem” as a dedicated initiative for promoting educational equity in Pakistan’s slum areas. Through sustainable waste management practices and strategic partnerships, the campaign aims to enhance educational infrastructure, provide access to quality education, and foster sustainable development in the country.
Notably, “TameerSeTaleem” garnered three international awards when presented at the prestigious Istanbul Youth Summit 2023 in Turkey.
IMARAT Group has gained recognition for its distinctive ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) initiatives, including the Tiniest Carbon Report Initiative, extensive tree plantations, STEAM Safeer Sessions, and Taqdeer Ki Tameer.
