Pakistan’s government has assured that the country’s export oriented technology sector, particularly business process outsourcing and call center operations, will remain protected despite recently announced fuel conservation and austerity measures. Federal Minister for IT and Telecommunication Shaza Fatima Khawaja clarified that the IT export industry will not face disruptions as the government continues to prioritize sectors that contribute significantly to Pakistan’s foreign exchange earnings. The statement came following concerns within the technology industry regarding the potential operational impact of new conservation policies introduced as part of broader economic management measures.

In a statement shared publicly, the minister emphasized that the government recognizes the importance of uninterrupted operations for export driven technology services. She stated that special attention is being given to ensure that business process outsourcing companies and call centers, many of which operate around the clock to serve international clients, are not affected by any restrictions linked to energy or fuel conservation. According to the minister, further updates will be provided after the upcoming meeting of the implementation committee that is reviewing the operational aspects of these measures.

The IT and outsourcing sector has emerged as a key contributor to Pakistan’s digital economy, with call centers and BPO companies providing services to international clients across multiple time zones. Continuous operations are essential for these businesses, as service disruptions could affect contractual commitments and international client relationships. Government officials therefore reiterated that maintaining stability in this sector remains a priority, particularly as Pakistan continues to promote IT exports and digital services as part of its broader economic strategy.

Officials also highlighted that the Ministry of IT and Telecommunication, Pakistan Software Export Board, and Pakistan IT Industry Association remain in close coordination with industry stakeholders to address operational concerns. A dedicated 24 hour support channel has been made available through support@pseb.org.pk to assist companies requiring clarification or assistance. In addition, industry representatives can contact the Markaz call center through 080001010 for round the clock support as authorities continue consultations to ensure that Pakistan’s technology export ecosystem remains stable and fully operational.
